SOAR 2026 – Celebrating 30 Years of Indigenous Prosperity and Vision

The energy was electric at SOAR, the 2026 NACCA Indigenous Prosperity Forum, as we gathered to celebrate a monumental milestone: 30 years of the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA) and the Indigenous Financial Institution (IFI) network. The forum opened with a powerful sense of history and global connection during the “Sovereignty in Motion” panel. Moderated by Mark Dokis (NACCA), this opening discussion brought together leaders from Aotearoa, Australia, and Canada. Alongside a stirring keynote from the Honourable Nanaia Mahuta, the panel explored the intersections of economic sovereignty and procurement, reminding us that the “kindred spirit” of Indigenous commerce is a global force.

As the first day progressed, the focus shifted from global trade to community foundations. We explored the Yänonhchia’ Housing Initiative, where experts like Chief Lance Haymond and Martin Légaré discussed transforming mortgages into pathways for stability and wealth. It was a moving moment to see pioneers like Keith Matthew, Shannin Metatawabin, Elaine Chambers, and Jean Vincent stand together to reflect on three decades of resilience and vision.

Day two kept the momentum high, leaning into the future of technology and international markets. A dynamic youth panel moderated by Amy Jackson explored how the next generation is leveraging AI and digital platforms to scale their ventures. This was complemented by a deep dive into the Indigenous Growth Fund (IGF) with Frank Richter, showing how precision-deployed capital is accelerating IFI capacity. Practical growth remained front and centre during the “Trading New Paths” session, where Donna St. Louis of Export Development Canada (EDC) sat down with entrepreneurs Anthony Wingham and Jolene Johnson to discuss diversifying trade and reaching global markets while staying deeply rooted in community values.

The forum reached its powerful conclusion with a look at the “New Indigenous Economies.” We welcomed the Honourable Billy Morin, who addressed the vital role of partnership in our shared prosperity, followed by Juan Carlos Reyes’ fascinating look at how El Salvador is utilizing blockchain and cryptocurrency to unlock economic value. To close the event, Jennifer Elle delivered a raw and insightful keynote on leadership and accountability. She reminded us that our future leaders are being shaped right now, in our homes and everyday conversations, and that true leadership requires the humility to listen.

This incredible gathering was made possible by the collective contributions of the IFI network members, delegates, and the dedicated NACCA team. We extend our sincere appreciation to our Platinum Sponsor, TD, for their incredible support in making SOAR a space where we could share knowledge, strengthen relationships, and highlight the transformative work being led across the country to advance Indigenous prosperity.
