Celebrating Indigenous Entrepreneur Role Models for National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the diverse histories, cultures, languages, and ongoing contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada. It is also an opportunity to recognize the leadership and innovation of Indigenous entrepreneurs who are shaping stronger local economies and creating opportunities for future generations.

To mark this month, NACCA is sharing Role Model Stories from two flagship programs: Indigenous Youth Entrepreneurship (IYE) and Indigenous Women Entrepreneurship (IWE). Through these programs, NACCA and our network of Indigenous Financial Institutions support entrepreneurs with capital, mentorship, and culturally grounded business development services, helping them start and grow successful businesses in their communities.

Our Role Model Stories highlight Indigenous youth and women who are turning their ideas into impactful ventures across sectors such as retail, tourism, professional services, trades, and more. Each story showcases a unique path into entrepreneurship, the challenges they have overcome, and the ways they are giving back by creating local jobs, preserving culture and language, and providing much-needed services close to home.

By amplifying these voices, NACCA aims to inspire more Indigenous youth to see entrepreneurship as a viable pathway and to encourage more Indigenous women to access the tools and supports available through the IWE program. Role models play a powerful role in helping people see themselves in business, especially when they share similar lived experiences and community connections.

Throughout National Indigenous History Month, NACCA will feature new Role Model Stories across our website, social media channels, and Monday Morning Moccasin newsletter. We invite you to read, watch, and share these stories with youth, women, and community partners in your networks. Together, we can support Indigenous-led economic development and continue building a more inclusive and prosperous future for Indigenous communities.
